TIBIC

Introducing Taiwan’s First Cross-domain Smart Medical Platform to Develop Smart Healthcare and Medicine

The Taiwanese government has identified the biomedical industry as one of six core strategic industries. As part of this effort, ITRI established the Taiwan Integrated Biomedical Industrial Center (TIBIC), which opened in 2020. TIBIC is a cross-domain experimental site that combines innovative technologies and creates an international platform for medical healthcare and technology. It includes three verification laboratories (the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory, Usability Laboratory, and Smart Robotic Surgery Laboratory) and four clinical simulation sites (the Simulated Tomography Room, Simulated General Ward, Simulated Operating Room, and Simulated Intensive Care Unit). TIBIC provides a platform for medical material developers to communicate directly with doctors and stimulate technological innovation cooperation.

The TIBIC represents Taiwan’s first cross-domain smart medical experimental site and has attracted the internationally renowned biomedical company AstraZeneca (AZ) to establish its first future healthcare laboratory in Asia. In 2021, ITRI, the Hsin-Chu Branch of the National Taiwan University Hospital, information and communication companies, and medical material companies collaborated to construct the Real-time Physiological Signal Monitoring Integration Platform, which elevates Taiwan’s epidemic prevention and care capacity and provides more than 10 clinical sites for companies. In 2022, ITRI, Foxconn, and Taiwan Biophotonic Co. signed a letter of intent for cooperation and conducted clinical trials at New Taipei Municipal Tucheng Hospital.

2020

TIBIC was opened.

2021

ITRI, the National Taiwan University Hospital (Hsin-Chu Branch), information and communication companies, and medical material companies collaborated to build the Real-time Physiological Signal Monitoring Integration Platform.

2022

ITRI worked with the Riverside En Chu Kong Nursing Home to build the PECOLA AI sensory care system.

2022

ITRI, Foxconn, and Taiwan Biophotonic Co. signed a letter of intent to develop smart medical devices and promote smart health care. Clinical tests were conducted at the New Taipei Municipal Tucheng Hospital to speed up product launches.
